When the preseason coaches’ polls were released last August, Pittsburg State and Washburn were picked to finish second and third respectively. Its no wonder that this weekend game in Topeka has been circled on both Gorilla and Ichabod fans calendars for some time. Most MIAA fans believed this game would go a long ways towards determining post-season positions. It has lived up to all the hype!
Pitt State and Washburn are two teams moving in the opposite directions after last weekend play. Washburn traveled to Maryville with only one loss in conference play and were sitting clearly in the national playoff picture ranked sixth in the region. After a one point loss the Ichabods, now with three overall losses they plummeted to eleventh in the rankings released Monday. Pitt on the other hand pitched its second shutout in three weeks and won their third straight game. The Gorillas convincing victory over Fort Hays and a little help to our friends in western Nebraska and Texas catapulted them into a fifth place regional ranking. Read the rest of this entry »
