Player of the Week
Teamkong

One would think a 46-14 victory over the sixth ranked team in the country would make the Teamkong Player of the Week a simple one.  The choice would be the player who had the biggest impact on the exciting victory.  One would think, wouldn’t they?

But last night this was just not the case.  The performance was such a team effort, it would be unfair to give the award to just one player.  So, the entire Gorilla Football program will be the pick for this week.  Some might think this choice is a cop out, a way from making a tough choice.

We could have chosen Neil Philpot for his great play.  But what about Andy Majors, his two-point conversion was one of the “tone-setting” plays of the most amazing first quarter in the modern era of Gorilla Football.

Chauncey Jones could have been the winner.  But so could Ryan Meredith, Josh Lawson or any of the defensive ends.  Aaron McConnell scored a touchdown, and put pressure on Heckndorf all night long. But Mark Stephen showed again why he is one heck of a defensive tackle.

Chad Miller had an interception, and showed many of us he is not just a run stopper.  But Terek Wilson led the team in tackles, and broke up many plays.  Jimmie Taylor set the tone early with a big hit, and he kept his intensity the entire game.

Its goes on and on.

Germaine Race ran hard.   But so did Joe Taylor.  Matt Strange had another great night at fullback.  The offensive line, led by Tyronne Armstrong keeping getting better and better.

Elliot Austin blocked well, and did even better as a receiver.  Ryan Hellwig is always solid, and again last night caught a touchdown pass.  Let’s hope is knee is ok.

Adam Meier definitely had the hit of the night, and stopped a touchdown pass.  Vernard Veasley turned in another excellent performance.  Levi Neville showed he is healthy, and ready to do whatever he needs to help this team.

Nathan Alleman bounced back from a shaky first game, to have an outstanding night kicking.  He scored eight points and did a good job on special teams.  Jermaine Carpenter returned kicks, and oh yeah caught a touchdown pass on the first play of the game.  We will see great things from this young man all season long.

Don’t forget about the back ups who played great on special teams, and kept the sidelines alive.  These reserves also got the team ready by running scout team all week.

It does not stop with the players.  Coach Broyles, Tim Beck, Antone Stewart and their staff continue to inspire their players and maximize their potential.  Their preparation and game management was impeccable.

Last night was truly an electric evening.  The fireworks were in the air and on the field.  No one person stood out with an outstanding performance, they all did!
